They say a new year means new opportunities and it's never been more true for recent healthcare graduates. Fresh from schooling, a whole new crop of healthcare professionals are on the hunt for new opportunities. As a recruiter, this is a very exciting time, but it can also be a little bit overwhelming.
When attracting new recruits, it’s important to know what they’re looking for and how competitive the market it is for them. So we’ve put together some information that might help you attract this eager and ready talent pool.
Are new grads in high demand?
You bet. In a survey completed by Merritt Hawkins, 45% of newly graduated doctors received 100+ offers during training and 66% received 50+ after graduation. With shortages, doctors of all levels – but especially those looking to begin and grow their careers – are some of the most in-demand candidates in healthcare.
Do hospitals have opportunities for new grads?
Absolutely. A survey done by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing found that the average job offer rate for nurses with a BSN was 76% and 75% for entry-level MSN graduates.
Doctors are also in high demand. The Association of American Medical Colleges has predicted that by 2032, the industry will see a shortage of approximately 122,000 doctors, including a shortage of 55,000 primary care physicians and approximately 66,000 specialists. With a shortage looming, hospitals are eager to place candidates for the long term.
What perks are new graduates looking for?
New graduates are learning a lot from current healthcare professionals and many are focused on avoiding burnout. The main perk they’re looking for is work-life balance. Flexible schedules, telemedicine, and time off are all perks that can attract this new crop.
New graduates also value career growth and opportunities for learning on the job. Providing ample opportunities for growth can go a long way to not only attracting candidates but to keeping them.
