San Fernando Community Health Center (SFCHC) is a Federally Qualified Health Center dedicated to providing the highest quality of care to everyone in our community, with an emphasis on serving the most vulnerable. SFCHC was designated a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in August 2015, but our commitment to this community and its people spans more than ninety years, beginning originally in 1923 as the San Fernando Valley’s first community hospital. SFCHC now moves into the future as a state-of-the-art health center with a full complement of medical, dental, behavioral health and education services.
Housed in the same historical site that was the site of the first hospital, San Fernando Community Health Center commits to remaining true to our legacy of caring and our history of being a treasured health resource in our community. We resolve to address the issue of access to primary care services for all in our community, including those who are chronically underserved.
SFCHC is dedicated to achieving excellence in health care for the community of the San Fernando Valley. The entire organization from the governing board to the individual staff members participate in a systematic effort to improve the quality of health care and other services provided to our patients.

As you enter the City of San Fernando along picturesque, palm-lined Brand Boulevard, you discover a community rich in California history dating back almost two centuries. Named in honor of a Spanish Saint/King, San Fernando was selected for settlement long before the rest of Los Angeles. The City grew out of the ranching activities surrounding Mission de San Fernando Rey, whose graceful porticoes still stand today.
The City of San Fernando is a community of attractive contrasts. What was once a land of farms and ranches adjoining the Mission de San Fernando Rey is now a vibrant center of manufacturing and commerce. San Fernando enjoys a sweeping view of the panoramic San Gabriel foothills and a sense of privacy; yet it is only minutes from downtown Los Angeles and only minutes away from other centers of commercial activity, thanks to a network of freeways and nearby airports. The City combines modern metropolitan conveniences with a close-knit community of friendly, civic-minded residents. Moreover, San Fernando proudly offers responsive city services, good access to city government, a large labor pool, a lower business tax than Los Angeles, and no utility tax.
A warm sunny climate and plenty of recreational activities add to the City’s drawing power. The weather is downright Mediterranean, with an average rainfall of 12” – 17″ and 44% humidity. Average temperatures range from highs of 85 degrees in summer to lows of 47 degrees in winter. It’s no wonder, then, that many people are finding San Fernando an ideal place to live and work!
The San Fernando Valley has it all. It’s made up of gorgeous suburbs and mini-malls. Surrounded by the Santa Monica and Santa Susana Mountains, the San Fernando Valley is an exciting mecca of cultural attractions, shopping, dining, and nightlife. Major attractions are within one hour of the Valley making it the perfect spot for day trips to exciting amusement parks, cool beaches, majestic mountains, and sunbaked deserts. Of course, there’s every kind of traditional sport and hobby imaginable — from tennis to ice skating, from bowling to rollerblading, from world-class archery to radio-controlled airfields for model plane enthusiasts. In fact, when it comes to fun, if you can imagine it, you can do it in the San Fernando Valley.
The Valley, while in size, is equivalent to major cities across the nation, in actuality is a suburb of the City of Los Angeles and is home to 1.6 million residents within its 240 square miles. It provides a variety of shopping experiences from major malls to small boutiques; a wonderful artistic community featuring theater, music, and dance; as well as an array of restaurants for all tastes and budgets.
