A bit of what North Idaho has to offer!

The Long Bridge acts as the 2-mile gateway to North Idaho but also serves the community as a popular biking and/or running trail. Once across the bridge, you enter the charming town of Sandpoint. Annual area events include Farmers Markets, the annual art walk, Lost in the 50s, Festival at Sandpoint, Huckleberry Festival, Timber Days, The Long Bridge Swim, and October Fest on Schweitzer Mountain. North Idaho can always find a reason to celebrate.

After all that celebrating, hikers can access lakeshores, historic and cultural sites, and mountain lakes. One can follow rushing streams or wander through ancient cedar groves. Many of these trails are readily accessible from our local communities or well-traveled, paved roads. Schweitzer Mountain is a world-class ski and snowboard resort boasting two magnificent natural bowls encompassing 2,900 skiable acres, 2,400 feet of vertical drop, with 87 runs and trails served by two high-speed quads, a high-speed six-pack, one triple chairlift and three double chairlifts. In the summer the resort remains an attraction offering hiking and mountain biking trails, festivals, concerts, horseback riding and huckleberry picking.

Lakes, Lakes and More Lakes… Lake Pend Oreille is Idaho's largest lake with a shoreline 144 miles long, and a depth of over 1,170 feet. If that’s not enough, one of the other 49 lakes in Bonner County, including Priest Lake, offer countless recreational opportunities. If fishing is your thing, join one of the many fishing derbies throughout the year. Boaters can enjoy water-skiing, wakeboarding, wake surfing, kayaking or can simply take a sunset cruise to one of the many marinas or lakeside restaurants located up and down the shore. If you would rather enjoy the lake from the shore, you might visit Sandpoint City Beach where you can swim, play tennis, basketball or beach volleyball, let your kids play in the park or watch the sailboats from the deck at Trinity at City Beach.

Bonners Ferry, ID

Bonners Ferry, named Idaho’s “Most Friendly Town” during the Idaho Governor’s Conference on Recreation and Tourism, offers its residents an outstanding quality of life in one of the most beautiful places in the nation. It is a wonderful place to live, work, raise a family and retire.

Thriving Bonners Ferry has a population of 2,610 and is the county seat for Boundary County, population 10,808.

Aptly named, Boundary County borders Canada to the north, Washington to the west and Montana to the east, and Bonner County, Idaho to the south. Bonners Ferry’s location at the crossroads of Highway 95 and Highway 2 makes it the gateway city for travelers entering Idaho from Canada, via two border crossings at Porthill and Eastport, as well as from Libby and Troy, Montana, to the east.

Bonners Ferry is nestled along the Kootenai River, which flows north up to Canada and forms the Kootenai Valley – one of the richest agricultural areas in the state. The heavily forested Selkirk, Cabinet and Purcell mountain ranges frame the valley and provide surpassing recreation as well as a significant, sustainable timber industry.

Sandpoint, Idaho

Just 30 miles south of Bonners Ferry, a very easy commute, you will find beautiful Sandpoint.  Located on magnificent 43-mile-long Lake Pend Oreille, surrounded by the Selkirk and Cabinet mountains, and with Schweitzer Mountain ski resort minutes away, Sandpoint is blessed with outstanding natural attractions in all seasons. But it goes deeper than that. The town itself is exceptional, home to a thriving arts community, the historic Panida Theater, a busy events schedule, a plethora of excellent restaurants, fine lodging, and unusual shopping and abundant recreation. In fact, Sandpoint has been named the “Most Beautiful Town in America” by Rand McNally and USA Today.

The word is getting around through national recognition that this is the best small town in the west to live. People move here from around the world to enjoy this four-season playground with a motto to work hard but play harder. While the recreation abounds, the area also appeals to so many due to the unique richness of history, the arts, events, small town hospitality, and community spirit.

The area has a four-season climate with average highs in the summers of 81.2 degrees and average lows in the winter at 21 degrees. Average precipitation annually is about 33.3 inches with an average snowfall of 87.8 inches. In the summer months, locals can be found enjoying a variety of outdoor activities including a day at the shores of one of our many lakes, a sail across Lake Pend Oreille, horseback riding in the Cabinet or Selkirk Mountains, and more; while the winter season provides ample snow to alpine ski, snowboard, cross country, or telemark at Schweitzer Ski Resort or in the surrounding back country.
