Blackville was in the part of SC called the “back country”. Due to a plentiful supply of water for drinking and transportation, settlers came to the area prior to the Revolutionary War. Later, when the railroad was built between Charleston and Hamburg, John Black chose this area as an overnight stop for the train. Blackville became a marketing and transportation center and thrived until the Civil War began in 1861. Blackville is also home to Healing Springs. The Healing Springs story dates back to the 1700’s when Indians believed in the secret healing powers of the springs. During the American Revolution, four mortally wounded British soldiers were left here in the care of two able bodied men until they died and were buried. Six months later, all six returned to their garrison in Charleston, further perpetuating the springs’ legend for healing. Many natives of the area still claim the waters are a cure all for “what ails ya.” In recent years, the wonderful climate and natural beauty brought Mennonite settlers from western states. Today, the Mennonites share their crafts and great cooking ability, along with insight into their religious practices.

Where Our Rich Culture Defines Us

Originally named Cote Gelee (Frozen Hills) because of its hilly ridge area and the severe winter of 1784.  Broussard was founded in 1884...named after Valsin Broussard, a prominent local merchant, who formed the first Vigilante Committee when his own store was robbed.  He was also a direct descendant of Joseph Gaurhept Broussard de Beau Soleil, one of the first 200 Acadians to arrive in Louisiana on February 27, 1765 aboard the Santo Domingo.

Primary agricultural resources include sugarcane, soybean and hay production as well as horse and cattle farming.  Principal industries consist of oil and gas service companies, food distributors, real estate developments and manufacturing.

Broussard has gone from a horse and buggy community, with large sugarcane plantation homes, to a current day industrial community with over 300 businesses.  Yet, one still experiences its charm though the atmosphere of elegant dining.  Creole home cooking and cajun food at our local restaurants.

Provider Health Services - Malvern, AR

A job at Provider Health Services is a whole different experience. It’s less of a job, more of a calling. Because whatever you do here, you play a part in helping redefine the way quality long-term healthcare is delivered to seniors. We seek the best healthcare professionals (HCPs). Achievers and leaders. Passionate and exceptional people. In return, we provide everyone who works here with unparalleled opportunities to exercise their responsibility and integrity, while growing themselves and building a valuable and rewarding career.

Malvern began its life in 1870 when the Cairo & Fulton Railroad laid out a new town site some 21 miles south of Hot Springs, a resort already nationally known for its medicinal bathing industry built around a remarkable array of thermal springs. First protected by the federal government in 1832, the springs would eventually become the centerpiece of Hot Springs National Park.

Because of its train service, Malvern, which was named after Malvern Hills, Virginia, benefited from its location near the spa city. Rail passengers would arrive in Malvern and then had to endure an uncomfortable stagecoach ride to the resort. In 1874, a wealthy Chicago industrialist named Joseph Reynolds took that route to Hot Springs for rheumatism treatments and subsequently built the "Diamond Jo" railroad to ease his future trips between Malvern and the spa city. For 15 years, his rail line was the only one serving Hot Springs.

Malvern's economy also benefited from nearby deposits of clay. The area became and remains known for the manufacture of bricks and Malvern proclaims itself as the "Brick Capital of the World." During the last week of June, the town celebrates that facet of its history with the annual Brickfest, which includes such events as a brick-car derby and a best-dressed brick contest.

More local history is on display in exhibits at the Hot Spring County/Boyle House Museum located at 302 E. 3rd St.

Lake Catherine State Park, located 12 miles north of Interstate 30 at Malvern via Ark. 171, is a recreational hotspot that offers cabins, campgrounds, hiking trails and interpretive programming throughout the year and a swimming beach and marina with rental watercraft during summer months.

Another nearby outdoor attraction is the Rockport Ledge whitewater playground created on the Ouachita River by timed releases of water from Lake Catherine. Kayaking enthusiasts gather to practice skills such as rolls, ferries, eddies, surfing and freestyle tricks at the drop-off and collection of boulders that span the river a few hundred yards above I-30.

Little Rock, the state's capital, is located 45 miles to the northwest via I-30 and is an easy day trip from Malvern.

Natchitoches traces its history to a French colonial settlement established in 1714 by Louis Juchereau de St. Denis, near the Natchitoches Indian village on the Red River. Trade and plantation agriculture shaped the city's early years. The original French settlement lay south of the current town center. As the Louisiana territory became Spanish and eventually American, the town moved north to Front Street. Much of the town's historic architecture has been preserved. The shifting Red River left Natchitoches behind, protecting it from 20th century development. Caring citizens recognized the importance of this accidental legacy.
