Annapolis, MD

Annapolis, the capital of Maryland, is 350 years young. It is a vibrant city, proud of its charming colonial heritage while offering visitors the latest in dining, accommodations, shopping, and entertainment.

The Chesapeake Bay is the largest estuary in the U.S., spanning 64,000 square miles and six states—and offering sailors everything from quiet retreats in calm inlets to full-on national sailing regattas in open water. Located in the heart of the Bay, it’s no surprise Annapolis is considered the Sailing Capital of the U.S.

When it comes to bountiful aquatic resources, we've got a lot to brag about. Anne Arundel County's rivers, streams, and coves form over 533 miles of shoreline. We claim the Chesapeake Bay, the nation's largest estuary, as our very own playground. Glimpses of sparkling water can be had even from the middle of downtown Historic Annapolis. It's no wonder countless people come to play on the water here. Whether you're an experienced kayaker, a day-tripping motor boater, an adventurous sailing novice, or anyone else who yearns to spend some time on the Chesapeake Bay or the area's winding inlets, creeks, and rivers that flow to this crown jewel of the Mid-Atlantic, we have the information you need. Whether you’re looking to give paddle boarding a go, book a historic water tour for a unique view of Annapolis, head out to open water on a fishing trip, or find something suitable for the whole family to enjoy, Annapolis is the perfect place to begin.

Annapolis and Anne Arundel County is home to a thriving visual and performing arts community. Performances by the Annapolis Shakespeare Company, Live Arts Maryland, Annapolis Opera, Annapolis Symphony Orchestra, and Ballet Theatre of Maryland make it easy for you to fulfill the musical part of Goethe's equation. As for the arts component, Annapolis and Anne Arundel County is home to dozens of fine art galleries - 25 of which are within walking distance of one another in downtown Annapolis.
