Mountain Health & Community Services

Mountain Health & Community Services, Inc. is a not for profit, 501(c)(3) corporation which for over 31 years has served the rural, border area of southeastern San Diego County. The two original health centers were Mountain Empire Family Medicine in Campo and High Desert Family Medicine in Jacumba. Mountain Health is known as a leader in providing rural health care and participates at the County, State and Federal levels in ensuring that access to care addresses the needs of vulnerable, rural populations.

Mountain Health provides primary and preventive care, behavioral health and community services to this vulnerable rural population, which faces many barriers in accessing health care and community services. The neediest populations within our rural area are seniors, people with disabilities and young families who have limited transportation or financial means to travel outside of the area to obtain services or to understand the resources that are available to them.

Alpine, CA

The Alpine plan area covers 108 square miles situated in the foothills of the Cuyamaca Mountains. The area is rugged and diverse, ranging from densely vegetated lower drainage-ways of 1500' elevation, to semi-arid hilly terrain, to the peaks of Viejas and El Cajon Mountains with elevations of over 4100'. Interstate 8 bisects the community. Suburbanized Lakeside is the western neighbor, with the eastern limits of the area situated as a gateway to San Diego County's wilderness areas of mountains, forests, and deserts. Most of the population of 8,200 is clustered around the small town of Alpine. The plan also encompasses the Viejas Indian Reservation and small settlements in Peutz Valley, Japatul Valley, Hidden Glen, Dunbar Lane, and Galloway Valley. Existing development has a rural character typified by light agricultural activities practiced in conjunction with residential uses.

This rural community is only 45 minutes away from all the attractions and amenities that San Diego has to offer.
