Inverness, FL

Whether a new resident or a visitor considering relocation to the City of Inverness, we think you will find our sense of community, city park facilities, miles of walking and bicycling trails, planned programs and activities provide fun for the entire family. Rich in natural resources and recreational opportunities, the City of Inverness attracts talent and tourists from all over the nation. The City of Inverness is approximately 7 square miles with over 7200 residents. The City continues to grow; however, growth is managed and supports the natural habitat. As new areas are identified for development, the City government ensures that services are available to support growth and to improve the quality of life for its citizens. Through the years, Inverness has become a haven for those seeking a simpler lifestyle, a friendly community to enjoy their retirement or a safe home to raise their family.

The City of Inverness is made up of many small neighborhoods, each with a distinctive past and flavor. We take pride in the rich history of these communities, as well as their development and growth over the years.

The City of Inverness is a staunch advocate of supporting alternative methods of transportation to protect our environment. With the Withlacoochee Rails to Trails only blocks from the heart of downtown, it is probably not surprising the City of Inverness is a bicycler’s paradise. Forty-six miles of paved recreational trail allows bicyclists and walkers to get their daily dose of activity while experiencing the natural beauty of areas surrounding the trail. And, for those cyclists who wish to venture off the main trail, they will find easy access to downtown and bike lanes on the main roads to accommodate safe travel.

This small town has energy and is home to year-round events that have garnered nationwide attention. The Cooter Festival is an emerging 3-day music festival with the vibe of Woodstock that in 2004 was covered by Comedy Central’s Daily Show with Jon Stewart, in a hilarious segment called Cooters! The Cooter Festival has free admission and a full weekend of live entertainment, water shows and features a full carnival with vendors. November brings the speed with the Inverness Grand Prix & Motorsports Festival. It is the only World Karting Association sanctioned kart street race in the southeastern U.S. making it a rare opportunity for karting enthusiasts. It is a 3/8-mile course that offers challenges from the road surface, five turns and a 680-foot back stretch where karts have been clocked at 72 miles per hour. This event kicks-off with a street party and concert on Friday night and street races on Saturday. In the spring, Inverness is home to one of the largest St. Patrick’s celebration in central Florida, a bass tournament that has $1,000 payout each hour and a foodie event with celebrity judges that have appeared on the Food Network. The Inverness St. Patrick’s Festival is the Saturday before the holiday, and kicks off with a parade and becomes a major street party with Celtic rock.

This historic downtown has culture and arts. It is home to the newly renovated Valerie Theatre Cultural Center and the Historic Old Courthouse Museum. The Valerie Theatre dates back to the 1920s-silent movie era but was recently beautifully restored into a modern cultural center with a calendar of entertainment from concerts, plays, educational exhibits, comedians, and movies. The Historic Old Courthouse Museum is home to the Citrus County Historical Society and houses special collection exhibits and hosts a number of special events throughout the year.

Calling all foodies, this small town has award-winning restaurants and hidden gems. It is a barbecue lover’s paradise with establishments serving up smoky, hot barbecue all year round. If sweets are your thing, there's a gourmet cupcake shop and a Belgian waffle and homemade ice cream parlor. Do you love casual dining? There's a large variety of restaurants serving Florida favorites such as wings, flatbreads, soups, salads and sandwiches. Inverness has a wood fired pizzeria, a farm-to-table café, and romantic fine dining options.
