All this beauty tends to hide from view the growth and many services and commercial enterprises residents enjoy.

La Pine is your gateway to recreation year-round. Tourists are attracted to the region by activities that include hunting, fishing, swimming, sailing, canoeing, water skiing, windsurfing, backpacking, camping, golfing, mountain biking, white water rafting, spelunking, downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling. The Deschutes National Forest that surrounds the La Pine Area, boasts more than 158 lakes and reservoirs, over 100 campgrounds, and over 240 miles of streams. The Deschutes River is one of Oregon’s premier recreation rivers and it starts just West of La Pine at Wickiup Reservoir. It is a challenging river to raft and its smaller cousin, the Little Deschutes River, also starts in the clear cold cascades. It winds its way through many of La Pine’s subdivisions, and there are many “in and out” spots along both rivers for rafters and fishing.

During the past 10 years, Deschutes County has experienced the most rapid growth of any county in the state largely due to its invigorating climate and year-round recreation activities. La Pine enjoys a lower cost of property acquisition including commercial and light industrial land, compared to most of Central Oregon. La Pine is the largest geographical community in the state, approximately 35 square miles.
