“The Outdoors at Your Front Door”

Beautiful La Pine, Oregon is a jewel in Central Oregon and south Deschutes County. A community among thousands of tall pines, close to the Cascade lakes and the Newberry National Volcanic Monument, it boasts spectacular outdoor recreation opportunities through its hometown slogan “The Outdoors at Your Front Door.” Annual events such as the Fourth of July Frontier Days and Rodeo, the Rhubarb Festival, and the Holiday Trucker's Light Parade showcase La Pine’s delightful local culture, unite the community, and attract visitors from surrounding areas.

La Pine with its rural, relaxed, friendly atmosphere offers spectacular sunrises and sunsets. The major Deschutes and Little Deschutes Rivers run close to the town center and many nearby prairies offer panoramic vistas. All this beauty tends to hide from view the growth and many services and commercial enterprises residents enjoy.

La Pine is your gateway to recreation year-round. Tourists are attracted to the region by activities that include hunting, fishing, swimming, sailing, canoeing, water skiing, wind surfing, backpacking, camping, golfing, mountain biking, white water rafting, spelunking, downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling. The Deschutes National Forest that surrounds the La Pine Area, boasts more than 158 lakes and reservoirs, over 100 campgrounds, and over 240 miles of streams. An 89-mile paved driving tour takes you past spectacular views of many mountain lakes and streams and the cascade mountains.

The Deschutes River is one of Oregon’s premier recreation rivers and it starts just West of La Pine at Wickiup Reservoir. It is a challenging river to raft and its smaller cousin, the Little Deschutes River, also starts in the clear cold cascades. It winds its way through many of La Pine’s subdivisions, and there are many “in and out” spots along both rivers for rafters and fishing.

During the past 10 years, Deschutes County has experienced the most rapid growth of any county in the state largely due to its invigorating climate and year-round recreation activities.
La Pine enjoys a lower cost of property acquisition including commercial and light industrial land, compared to most of Central Oregon. La Pine is the largest geographical community in the state, approximately 35 square miles.

Relocate to the Great Oregon Outback

Christmas Valley is part of North Lake County considered a land of diversity and contrasts. Located in central Oregon, the changing landscape provides timbered mountains, vast plains, sand dunes, marshes, volcanic flows, towering rimrock and lush, green agricultural areas. A rural area, this semi-arid region of Oregon is hometown friendly and supplies visitors with a different kind of vacation destination.

Christmas Valley Oregon is centrally located in Lake County Oregon. It is located about 110 miles southeast from Bend Oregon. About 40 minutes’ northeast from Lapine Oregon. It is about 140 miles northeast from Klamath Falls Oregon and about 108 miles from southeast from Lakeview Oregon, the county seat of Lake County Oregon. The California border is about 1.5 hours southeast from Christmas Valley. The Christmas Valley area has a population of around 2000 residents. Christmas Valley has 311 days of sunshine per year, the average temp in January is 23F, while the average temp in July is 86F.

The area provides great fishing and hunting, ATV riding, camping, horseback riding, hiking, golf, a historical museum, bird watching opportunities, famous archaeological sites, geological oddities, and much, much more.

Surrounding the town of Christmas Valley with its lodge, golf course, lake, motels and airstrip is an Agricultural community of farms and ranches offering an excess of 80,000 acres of level, fertile land on the sheltered eastern slopes of the Cascades which is also our watershed. To the West, there are ski resorts, and mountains and lakes that attract tourists from all over the world. Within the county, itself are 500 miles of streams, seven major lakes, and some of the finest fishing and hunting in the United States.

Christmas Valley is located near several recreational locations including Crack in the Ground, and the Oregon Outback. Crack in the Ground is a volcanic fissure over two miles long and up to 70 feet deep in Lake County Oregon. The length of the fissure can be hiked, as there is an established trail along the fissure's bottom. Normally, fissures like this one are filled in with soil and rock by the processes of erosion and sedimentation, but because Crack in the Ground is located in such an arid region, very little filling has occurred. As a result, Crack in the Ground exists today nearly as it did shortly after its formation. When you get there, it is easy to cool off, as the bottom of the crack can be as much as twenty degrees below the surface temperature. The Oregon Outback route links up a handful of must-see, but rarely visited parts of the state while simplifying the logistics of cross state travel as much as possible. The route starts in Klamath Falls, the southern-most full-service stop in Oregon on Amtrak. From K-Falls, you’ll get to enjoy 70+ miles of car-free bike trails before hitting lightly trafficked roads for the next 290 miles or so, eventually wrapping up your ride at the confluence of the Deschutes and mighty Columbia Rivers.
