Island Urgent Care

History:

Cementing its role in the community it serves by continuously providing affordable, quality medical treatment, Island Urgent Care celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2016.

With four locations serving Oahu, in Waikiki, Kahala, Kakaako, and Hawaii Kai, IUC has played an important role in the local healthcare network, by providing Oahu residents with immediate, no-appointment-needed, convenient, and affordable medical care. Founded in 2006 by Dr. Robert Ruggieri, Island Urgent Care is a pioneer in offering walk-in medical care at affordable prices to patients looking for urgent care without the need to make an appointment or suffer the stress a visit to the ER might bring. A graduate of the University of Hawaii Medical School, Dr. Ruggieri went on to Residency in Massachusetts, and then returned to Hawaii to practice Emergency Medicine at Queen Medical Center for 7 years before moving on to open the KahalaUrgent Care in 2006.

“I saw a need in the community for alternatives to treat injuries and illness without the added stress due to long wait times and costs associated with emergency room visits. I wanted to offer easier access and lower costs for treatment of non-life threatening injuries and illness.”

Mission:

IUC is a growing organization with an exciting mission to improve health care access, provide quality care for less-acute presentations and work with your primary care all in one visit. At IUC you will find a culture of excellence, compassion, integrity and most importantly, access and partnership with your health care. By working together in the spirit of partnership, we will improve health, create exceptional experiences for those we serve and make care and coverage more affordable and available.

Services:

Island Urgent Care is focused on the delivery of walk-in, outpatient care in a medical facility outside of the traditional emergency room. We primarily treat injuries or illnesses requiring immediate care but not a life-threatening illness or injury. We diagnose a wide variety of illnesses with the help of an in-house diagnostic lab and procedures such as Laceration Repair, I&D, Joint Reductions, Joint Injections, Splinting, etc. We also have access to an in-house X-ray machine in all facilities.

Honolulu is the largest city in the state of Hawaii and also home to the State Capitol. Honolulu, which means sheltered harbor or protected bay, is believed to have been founded as early as 2,000 years ago. The city was firmly established as the major center for the Hawaiian Islands by the mid-1800s. Hawaii became the Aloha State in 1959 when it was formally admitted to the Union as the 50th state.

Today, Honolulu is one of America’s safest cities with many unique features and characteristics. It’s home to America’s only royal palace and is known for its tropical climate, lush green landscape, diverse population, and community spirit known as aloha.
