The Institute for Family Health is a mission-driven health organization with a rich history and expert leadership. Since 1983 we have grown from a small non-profit with four staff members to one of the largest community health centers in New York State, serving over 90,000 patients annually at 27 locations.
What makes the Institute unique?
The Institute is committed to high-quality, affordable health care for all. We strive for excellence at each of our 27 practices, while accepting all patients regardless of their ability to pay. We offer primary care, mental health, dental care, social work and many other services to patients of all ages.
As a federally-qualified community health center (FQHC) network, we meet national standards for affordable, accessible, comprehensive health care services. We also participate in the federal medical professional liability program known as the Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA). We are accredited by the Joint Commission and recognized by the National Committee for Quality Assurance as a Level 3 patient-centered medical home, the highest recognition available.
The Institute operates 19 health centers in the Bronx, Manhattan, and Dutchess and Ulster Counties in the Mid-Hudson Valley. People of all ages are welcome at our centers.
We offer primary medical care, behavioral health (counseling) and dental care, along with many other services. We use a state-of-the-art electronic health record system so we can give you great health care.

The Hudson Valley extends 150 miles above the tip of Manhattan. Designated as a National Heritage Area, the valley is steeped in history, natural beauty, culture and a burgeoning food and farmer’s market scene. Located in the middle of the Hudson Valley, the rural community of Ellenville is a quaint town offering its residents a slower pace of living. Residents can satisfy all of their entertainment needs within Ulster County, the county in which Ellenville is located.
Ellenville is home to several live theatre and entertainment options including the Shadowland Theatre, offering a full range of professional theatre at an affordable price, Thursday Live Jazz, is hosted at the Aroma Thyme Bistro where you can enjoy a bite to eat, drink, and listen to jazz, Live Music Saturday Nights on Canal Street, also hosted at Aroma Thyme Bistro features different local performances.
The Ellenville area is an outdoor adventure. We have miles and miles of world class outdoor fun including Sam’s Point & Ice Caves Preserve, Shawangunk Wine Trail, Minnewaska State Preserve, Shawangunk Country Club Golf Course, Mountain Wings Hang Gliding, Basherkill Wildlife Management Area, and so much more.
Ulster County is the center for arts and culture in the Hudson Valley. Including the spectacular artscape of Opus 40 galleries and outdoor theatre, Ulster County has been home to the creative arts for more than 100 years. Music, of course, has a storied and popular history from Levon Helm's Midnight Rambles to the current live performances at the Ulster Performing Arts Center.
