Copper Center, AK

Copper Center is located on the Richardson Highway about 200 road miles from Anchorage and 100 miles north of Valdez. The town has a population of just under 400, with the local economy closely linked to highway related tourism. Copper Center is the gateway to America’s largest National Park, Wrangell St. Elias National Park and Preserve. The first white settlements in the area occurred around the turn of the century, but the Ahtna Alaska natives have occupied the Copper River basin for over 5000 years.
