Facility Details

Although it sits on the same property, High Desert State Prison (HDSP) is independent of and smaller than its neighbor, California Correctional Center. HDSP is one of a few institutions specifically designed to house patients with disabilities who require specialized placement to accommodate accessibility issues. Located near the charming, family-friendly town of Susanville in the picturesque foothills of Northeastern California, this area is the ideal location for those who enjoy outdoor activities including hiking, skiing, camping, and fishing.

Here, in a collaborative, multidisciplinary setting our physicians and psychiatrists provide basic primary medical and mental health care that is anything but basic to a diverse patient population.

A wide variety of programs support HDSP’s mission to rehabilitate patients and prepare them for re-entry into society. Some of the courses offered here include career and vocational training, educational opportunities, and developmental and self-help programs.
